Live in Minneapolis (DVD, 2005)

Biography:
The band Crimson Thorn started back in August of 1991. Luke Renno the
lead singer wanted to create a hard hitting force that featured "Christ
centered" lyrics and play a type of thrash or speed metal that was only
known in the "secular markets." The original line up was Luke Renno
vocals, Dave Quast on drums, Dylan Jennigis on bass, Jongeward on
guitars and Miles Sunde on guitars. Before any recordings were
accomplished Dylan left the band and Luke took up bass guitar. The
Plagued demo was recorded in 1992 at blue moon studios in south
Minneapolis.
Dave Quast wanted to pursue other musical intersts and left the band soon after recording the demo. The new line up had a drummer change with Kevin Sundberg . He introduced the band to even harder hitting music. Crimson Thorn started to experiment with elements of death metal to even some grindcore to their assult of new songs. At this time CT was signed to a local indie label called Attomic records and recorded their first full length CD called "Unearthed." Unearthed was released in 1994. After a few years had passed a label called "REX" picked up the "Unearthed" CD and re-released it again a year later giving the band much more distribution power and fan base.
After a few years had passed Paul Jongeward left the band and pursued other musical interests. But Kevin, Luke, and Miles kept doing their brand of death metal and started writting new material for a new release called "Dissection." CTwas a three piece for about three years then Andy Kopesky came along and filled the gap that was so needed in creating the wall of noise Crimson thorn was known to produce. Dissection was released in 1997 and to this day is a highly sought after item.
After rehearsing for a year or so and
writting enough material for another full lenght CD, "Dissection" was
recorded at My Apple Studios. This new Cd was distributed by another
small label called "Morphine Records" and after about a year had
passed, another label from Finland "Little rose records"picked up the
CD and re-released it in 1999. The Cd was produced a bit better and had
refinements to the graphic design.
A number of years passed and CT strted to record a new CD, but this
time around they were not going to record at a studio or be funded by a
"shoe string type of budget." They saved up money and built a home
recording studio in Kevin's basement and produced the best sounding CD
in the bands history. This album was painstakingly mixed and remixed to
ensure CT had the sound they had always wanted. It was hard being the
musician and the recording engineer all at the same time. But with
patience and hard work the "Purification" album was created and with
God's help it was an instant success.
All in all CT is so blessed to be doing wehat they love the most and praising God through their music has been a lifetime dream!
The future of CT is in God's hands, but they are even more motivated than in the past. It is their mission to keep our eyes focused on the prize and honor God in all that they do.
